Good and Bad Week

Rose Bowl Feb 19
This week has been a combination of good and bad.

The Good:

1) Even though we had a bad storm of wintery mix Monday, the weather is now warming up. The storm didn't actually start until we were in Champaign, but when it started, it was bad!! I had to go to Champaign to have my new shoe on my brace Monday. I was glad Jack was with me.  He has driven winter type weather much more than me, being he drove semi for 25+ years before being medicaled out. I have probably driven as many miles forward over the years as he has backward. When he stopped driving truck he had 3.5 million safe miles. No accidents of any kind in the semi.

2) We could be in the 50's before the week is out. I am so ready for the snow to go away!!

3) I did get in some decent stitching time on "Rose Bowl" I am guessing I have less than 1,000 to finish page one.

4) Jack and I had a wonderful time on our Anniversary. He got the sewing machine I had put on layaway out, had the church wrap it, and gave it to me that night at the dinner. I have bought a pattern, material and needed supplies to make me some navy blue slacks. I have been wanting a new pair.

5) Chance did get the job for which he was applying!

The bad news:

1) My friend, Patti, for whom I was going to stitch the butterfly, passed away in her sleep Monday night. Cause is unknown. Her visitation is tomorrow and funeral is Friday. I am still going to stitch the blue  butterfly, but instead of it going to Patti, I will give it to her family as a kind of memorial to her. Maybe I could have it done by what would of been her birthday next year? That date is January 9.

Well that is about it for now...when I list the good vs bad this way, I can see it has been a better week than a bad week.

Have a great week, everyone!

  1. You had a lot of good things happened this past week. Rose Bowl looks great! This weather is crazy. We are getting rain and icing up tonight., then in the 40s and 50s the next 4 days. Flooding is the next concern. How nice of Jack to get the sewing machine for you and extra sweet to get the church to wrapped it up too. My condolences to you about your friend and butterfly will be a sweet memorial.

    1. You are right, Vicky. When someone thinks they are having a bad week, it helps to list the number of bad things vs the number of good, then you realize just how good your week was. Thank you for the compliments and I believe you are right that the butterfly would be a wonderful memorial.

    1. Thank you, Meari. We got rain last night and the temps reached into the upper 50's today. We still have snow, but not near the amount we had!

  3. My dad was a truck driver his whole life and whenever he was training new (young) guys, they would get cocky and tell him they knew what they were doing. Dad always said he had more miles backing up than they had driving forward and almost every time, that new driver realized that my Dad was right. I've really been missing my Dad as the 4th anniversary of his passing is coming up and reading your post about Jack's safe miles in the semi brings back fond memories of my dad.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Patti.

    1. Pam, I'll be praying for you as the anniversary of your Dad's passing approaches. I am glad I was able to bring back fond memories for you. Jack trained several drivers too. He'd still be driving today if he hadn't developed health issues.

  4. Lyn - I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. I'm sure the butterfly will be a blessing to her family.
When I was in the Navy, I went to school at Chanute Air Force Base - we had a saying - "Shoot me but don't Chanute me!" ;-)

    2. I lived in Rantoul several years ago, shortly after Chanute closed. That was where J B Hunt had a training school. Jack came off the road for awhile and taught driving there.

    1. Thank you so much on all counts, Faith. I spoke with Patti's brother at the visitation, and he liked the idea of the cross stitch memorial, so I will do it. Now I just need to figure out what color to stitch the butterfly on. I was thinking of a color similar to what would be a sunrise.

  8. Your stitching is beautiful. I'm so sorry about your friend. I think it's very nice that you will stitch and give the Butterfly to her family and I'm sure they will love it. I am doing the same thing for a very dear friend that I lost last year, in that I am giving a piece that I was stitching for her to her family.

Happy Belated Anniversary. How great of your husband to surprise you with the sewing machine that you wanted :)

    1. Thank you for the kind words, Margie. I know that families appreciate things like memorials to their loved ones. I was very happy to receive the machine. Jack had been a bit nervous about giving me a machine for our Anniversary, because his mom had instilled in him to never give a machine kind of tool to his wife as a gift. He told the church this, but also told them that sewing was one of my hobbies.
